Marie’s work not only brings joy to those who purchase her items but also to the many repeat customers who visit her table year after year, especially during the holiday season. “I love nothing more than seeing the smiles on people’s faces and hearing their compliments, including questions from curious kids like, ‘Did you make this? Wow!'” she shares. Many of her creations are made to order and, surprisingly, can be completed in just a couple of days—often exceeding customer expectations.
In addition to custom orders, you can find Marie’s products at local Christmas craft fairs throughout the region and at the Hudson’s Hope Museum. Through her dedication to knitting and her strong ties to the Hudson’s Hope community, Marie has built a reputation for quality that keeps customers coming back for more. Meet the Owner: Marie Gouldie
Meet Marie Gouldie, the heart and soul behind Northern Knitting Design. Marie’s journey in knitting began at the age of five, when her mother taught her the craft, inspired by her grandmother’s talent for making handmade goods to sell. “Knitting has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” she says. “It has always been there for me.”
Living in Hudson’s Hope for 45 years, Marie cherishes this safe, close-knit community where she has raised her children and built lasting relationships with her customers. “People come back to me time and again, especially during Christmas, and it brings me such joy to see their smiles and hear their lovely comments.”
Marie is passionate about her craft and takes pride in the quality of her work. “I can create one-of-a-kind items and develop my own patterns, fulfilling custom requests with surprising speed,” she notes, often completing special orders in just a couple of days.
“I do what I love, and I love what I do. I can’t think of anything I would rather do,” Marie shares. From vibrant sweaters to cozy toques and soft stuffed animals, her creations are filled with love and care. As she continues to inspire her granddaughters in the art of knitting, Marie remains steadfast in her commitment to spreading joy through her handmade works.
